Ready to begin your education in filmmaking? If so, please carefully review the requirements listed below as admission is highly selective—we’re scouting the boldest and brightest storytellers to join us at the FSU Film School.

Apply as a freshman if you are currently in high school, even if taking college courses. If you are enrolled in a dual-enrollment program and anticipate having enough college credits to earn an associate’s degree, you are also required to apply as a freshman.

Florida State University Application

Deadline for Florida State University Application: November 1st, 2017

Complete the Florida State University application and pay the $30 application fee. Please be sure that all requirements for the FSU application have been met by the deadline for your specific application.

  • Official SAT or ACT Test Scores
  • Self-Reported Student Academic Report (SSAR)

College of Motion Picture Arts Application

Deadline for Film Supplemental Application: November 1st, 2017

  • You will be required to create an account with the application system. Please note that your FSU ID and password are not recognized on this site and you must create a new login and password for this application.
  • After creating your account, be sure to note the login information so you have it for later use. Choose the “View Applications” button available at the bottom of the page. To begin the application, you need to click “Apply Now” next to the appropriate application.

The application will require you to answer the questions under Applicant Information and upload the following additional materials (detailed instructions including prompts can be found within the application):

  1. Resume
  2. Personal Journey Statement
  3. Writing Sample
  4. Creative Portfolio
  5. Three Letters of Recommendation

Once you have submitted your application, you can not make any changes to your application, although you can continue to check the status of your letters of recommendation. If you have any changes that you need to make after submission, please email admissions@film.fsu.edu.

Log on to the Online Status Check regularly to monitor the status of your application materials. You should also check your email for any correspondence from the College concerning your status.  It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure emails from the College are not going into spam folders. Email admissions@film.fsu.edu if you need to update your contact information.

Undergrad Admission - Transfer

Make Your Debut

Ready to begin your education in filmmaking? If so, please carefully review the requirements listed below as admission is highly selective—we’re scouting the boldest and brightest storytellers to join us at the FSU FIlm School.

Because of the number of credit hours required to complete the major, a transfer student can have no more than 66 hours completed at the time of transfer and a 3.0 GPA by the Fall of 2018.

Graduate Admission - Production

Set Your Next Scene

Ready to make your mark with an MFA degree in Production? If so, please carefully review the requirements listed below as admission is highly selective—we’re scouting the boldest and brightest storytellers to join us at the FSU Film School.

Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, and must have at least a 3.0 GPA in upper-division coursework (all undergraduate courses completed after reaching 60 credits).

Applicants are not required to have previous experience in film production or film-related coursework. However, strong candidates should be able to demonstrate an active interest in visual and/or narrative storytelling through coursework, internships, creative works, job experience, and/or compelling life experiences, and how that experience will help make them strong filmmakers.

  • After creating your account, be sure to note the login information so you have it for later use. Choose the “View Applications” button available at the bottom of the page. To begin the application, you need to click “Apply Now” next to the appropriate application.

The application will require you to answer the questions under Applicant Information and upload the following additional materials:

  1. Resume
  2. Statement of Purpose
  3. Writing Sample 1
    A two-page non-dialogue scene about a person trying to kill a spider in his/her home.
  4. Writing Sample 2
    A three-page dialogue scene about a person trying to return an item to a store.
  5. Writing Sample 3
    A sample of original, creative work of up to 5 pages.
  6. Three Letters of Recommendation
  7. Unofficial transcript
