Facilities
Create Something Extraordinary
The FSU Film School has one of the finest production facilities in the world, devoted exclusively to motion picture education. From writers’ rooms and sound stages to post-production suites, animation labs, and screening rooms, the school functions as an industry-grade production studio. We provide students with 24/7 access to the resources they need to make their films, allowing them to focus their energy on what’s most important: the creation of compelling stories.
Our Facilities
Development Rooms
During the development and pre-production phases of the filmmaking process, students collaborate in these dedicated spaces for writing and planning.
Director's Prep Rooms
Once the script is locked, students move onto our Director’s Prep Rooms to work with a faculty committee on how best to bring the script to life.
Equipment Room
The Equipment Room provides a full range of production tools, from big ticket items (like fully-loaded grip trucks and RED Digital Cinema cameras) to the smallest details (like batteries and C47 clothes pins).
Sound Stages
These stage spaces accommodate large set constructions and include moveable lighting grids and a green screen stage. There’s also a dedicated stop-motion stage for animation students.
Animation and Visual Effects Studio
Our digital production labs provide workstations loaded with industry-standard software like Nuke and Maya, and online production tools like Shotgun, FX Elements, and Frame.io.
Post-Production Facilities
When it comes time to edit a film, students cut their projects in individual editing bays running a professional suite of tools.
Color and Sound Suites
Students have access to calibrated coloring suites, a Foley stage, ADR booths and re-recording stages to make sure every detail is pitch perfect.
Screening Theaters
When the students’ films are completed, they premiere their masterpieces at the Student Life Cinema on Florida State’s campus.
Torchlight Center for Motion Picture Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Located 15 minutes west of the main FSU campus, the Torchlight Center is the home of Torchlight Studios and Torchlight Cinematheque. The Center houses our state of the art LED virtual production volume and provides students with opportunities to learn about virtual production.
