Adele Plauché

Production Designer in Residence

Adele Plauché is a production designer, art director, and set designer who has worked on over 80 feature films, television, and streaming projects over the past 30 years. She joined the Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts to develop and lead the MFA specialization in Production Design.

Adele studied architecture and interior architecture at Tulane University in New Orleans and Pratt Institute in New York City. She began her career in film as a scenic artist, rising through the art department ranks — from art PA to set decorator, set designer, art director, and production designer. Set design became her primary focus, a role in which she served as the project’s “architect,” producing construction documents and overseeing the research, design, and construction of the film’s sets.

Some of her notable works include Office Space (Mike Judge/Fox), Love & Death (HBO), Looking for Alaska (Hulu), Where’d You Go, Bernadette (Richard Linklater/United Artists), The Leftovers (HBO), Predators (Robert Rodriguez), Temple Grandin (HBO), Walk the Line (Fox), Miss Congeniality (Warner Bros.), and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (Warner Bros.).

Raised in New Orleans, Adele was surrounded by historic architecture that shaped her design eye and sparked a lifelong love of creating impactful spaces. Her work has taken her across the country and abroad, with projects in Puerto Rico, Budapest, and Mexico. Living in Paris and traveling Europe exposed her to a broad range of cultures and design aesthetics, deepening the visual vocabulary she draws on in her work.

Adele believes that research is an essential aspect of production design — a skill that must be cultivated to produce rich, appropriate designs for characters and story. She approaches each project as a cultural anthropologist, building layered settings that expand and reinforce the narrative.

She has been nominated alongside her art department colleagues for four Art Directors Guild Awards for her work on A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, American Horror Story: Coven, and True Grit, with the team winning for The Alienist. She is a member of IATSE Local 479 Studio Mechanics in Atlanta and United Scenic Artists, IATSE Local 829 in New York.
