Student Snapshot – Gabrielle Chapman
Gabrielle Chapman
MFA Class of 2023
Introduce yourself briefly and tell me a little bit about your background. Are you an MFA or BFA?
Hi! My name is Gabrielle Chapman and I’m an MFA student at FSU film. I’m from Panama City, FL and I began my storytelling journey by writing short stories and poetry. When I’m not making movies you can find me on the boat, scuba diving, or hiking in the mountains.
Who is your favorite Filmmaker and What is your favorite movie?
My favorite filmmaker at the moment is Jordan Peele. Although, my favorite movie is Almost Famous (rock n roll will always have my heart).
What are you currently working on?
I am currently in post-production for my D2 which is the second out of three films I will make at FSU. This is a drama/romance with a spunky female protagonist.
What does your typical day look like?
I always start my day with a cup of black coffee, then head to school or to set. I try to fit a workout in. I usually get dinner with my classmates and end my night with a movie or tv show.
What has been the best part of film school so far?
Definitely all the friends I’ve made! These will be lifelong friendships.
Which faculty member has made the greatest impression on you and how?
Julianna has been such an incredible professor! She inspires me to let my voice shine through in my writing and she has been a wonderful example for me as a young woman entering the industry.
What do you think someone applying to the program should know about the FSU Film School?
This program is no joke. This becomes your life but if you want to tell stories then it is a wonderful life. FSU film is a wonderful place to begin your career in film and meet lifelong friends.
Favorite Film School Moment?
There may be too many to pick, but probably when Barry Jenkins surprised my class on zoom and then answered my question.
It’s late, you’re at the Film School working on something you need to finish before tomorrow: where are you and who are you with?
I’m in one of the prep rooms with Valery Garcia and Sean Piontek.
