The College of Motion Picture Arts offers a Master of Fine Arts screenwriting program with a foundation in motion picture production.  Working with professional and experienced screenwriters from the start, you are challenged to master the art, craft and business of storytelling. You graduate prepared for success in the industry, and you become a part of our close-knit community of screenwriters who are proud to call the College their alma mater.

Write with a foundation in production

The program’s curriculum is based on the philosophy that a successful writer’s creative work is informed by production knowledge and experience.  You engage in intensive production training in your first semester, when you direct and screen a short motion picture. 

Spend a semester in London

What better way to learn the fundamentals of storytelling than by spending a semester in London?  Your first spring semester is spent in the cultural center of theatre, where you immerse yourself in the West End experience, and complete a feature-length screenplay and a one-act play.

Master the art of visual storytelling

As one of only six students admitted each year, you work intimately with respected resident and visiting screenwriters to learn all aspects of writing for movies, television, and theatre. Dedicated specialists work one-on-one with you to shape your artistic decisions and craft your most compelling story. You graduate from the program with a body of creative work that includes several short screenplays, four feature-length screenplays, a television pilot, and a one-act play.

Support from the college continues after you graduate. Our director of alumni selects industry mentors to help guide you in your career. You join our network of alumni, who have earned a reputation in the industry as innovative, successful filmmakers, and have a 97% industry placement rate within one year of graduation. They can be found in every facet of the entertainment business, and they return often to share their experience in the industry.
