MFA Application Information & Requirements

MFA in Production

The MFA Program is a full-time (Fall, Spring, and Summer), two-year course of study in motion picture production in which 90 credit hours of courses are ultimately completed. Our focus is story and storytelling. To maintain the caliber of education necessary for our students to succeed in an extremely competitive industry, we admit only 24 production students each year. Applicants to the MFA Program in Film Production are not required to have received an undergraduate degree in a related field nor to have direct experience in filmmaking.

MFA in Writing

The course of study in Writing is offered jointly by the College of Motion Picture Arts, and The School of Theatre. Only six writing students are admitted each Fall. The program is comprised of six consecutive semesters (61 hours of completed coursework) that lead to a Master of Fine Arts Degree. Click here for information on the cost of the writing program.

The Torchlight Program

The Torchlight Program is a non-degree granting academic program designed to enhance the education of film students by providing instruction in current and emerging business practices of the motion picture industry.

Current Torchlight Program Filmography

Students in the Torchlight Program have had the opportunity to present, market, publicize, promote and otherwise theatrically distribute ground-breaking independent films in a variety of markets throughout the United States and Canada.
