My Four Inch Precious

An MFA thesis project, "My Four Inch Precious" was one of the first Film School films to use the new RED cameras. It was also the first digital-capture film to ever win a prize from the American Society of Cinematographers. It's a playful story about a lonely garbage collector who falls in love with a woman who is quite a bit smaller.

A Mini-Interview with the Director

What provoked your interest in film?
I grew up drawing and painting. It was my passion of youth. But when I got to the university I was faced with the limitation of still images to express myself. I wanted to convey clearer meanings to share with more audiences. Then, I acted in plays, did performances and installations, until I realized I still desired to create visual images. That’s my calling. And that’s how I got into film.

What was your motivation behind making this film?
I wanted to tell a story that was cute, funny, delightful, but not with a traditional happy ending. Then I imagined what a fairy tale would turn into if it got into the minds of REAL grown-up guys who seem to have a lot of weird sexual fantasies in the backs of their minds.

What is your greatest achievement to date (in film or otherwise)?
The fact that I kept pursuing my passion and proved myself. It was a big challenge to come to a different country with a different language, and where I had no friends. But I managed to bring people together who believed in me and we created something together which we all are proud of.
