Florida State / Film School / Apply to FSU Film / BFA in Animation & Digital Arts
BFA in Animation and Digital Arts
Admission Requirements for the Bachelor of Fine Arts – Animation and Digital Arts Program
Motion Picture Arts is a limited access program. Admission is highly selective. Each class comprises no more than 100 students.
Separate applications must be made to The Florida State University Office of Admissions and to The College of Motion Picture Arts.
Transfer applications to both FSU and the College of Motion Picture Arts must be completed by July 1, 2012, to be considered for Fall 2012 admission. The application deadline for Freshmen applicants was January 18, 2012.
An applicant seeking to enter the College of Motion Picture Arts must meet the grade point average and test score requirements described by the University’s Office of Admissions. To learn more, visit http://admissions.fsu.edu/freshman/admissions/requirements.cfm.
The College of Motion Picture Arts will accept Freshmen on-line applications for consideration of admission for Fall 2013 starting August 1, 2012.
The application package for the Animation and Digital Arts Program consists of the following items. If any of these items are not received, your application will be incomplete and will not be reviewed by the Admissions Committee:
- The Transfer on-line application
- A résumé encompassing any/all of the following: education, employment, extra-curricular activities, creative endeavors, sports, hobbies, travel, and service work
- Three letters of recommendation (Please request these well ahead of the deadline so that your references have adequate time to prepare their letters. All letters must be received by July 1, 2012 for transfer students.)
- Unofficial copies of high school and college transcripts
- A statement of purpose: a 500 to 1,000 word essay that describes your creative influences, personal objectives, and future career goals – in short, your motivation for pursuing a career in digital media.
BFA applicants may not submit portfolio items as part of the application.
Admission into the film major as a transfer student requires that no less than 30 hours of FSU’s liberal studies requirements be completed at FSU or through transferable credit from another institution prior to Fall admission into the College of Motion Picture Arts. A student may apply as a transfer to the College of Motion Picture Arts during the fall semester of his/her freshman or sophomore year in college but not during the junior or senior years in college.
Freshman and transfer applicants who are being considered for admission into the program will be invited for mandatory interviews with the Motion Picture Arts Admissions Committee. Those selected to interview for Fall 2012 admission will be notified as far in advance as possible, but not less than 10 days prior to the interview session. We anticipate that interviews will take place during February and March 2012; specific dates have not yet been determined.
All students must maintain a “B” average in all major requirements. Continuation as a major in Motion Picture Arts will depend on the development of each student’s talents, skills, professional discipline and academic record. A student’s work and commitment are under continuous review, and any candidate who fails to maintain high standards will be dismissed from the program.
